How does one explain
“God”… Well, one might as well go about explaining ‘Forever’ - Or The Universe!
It’s impossible, no? And aren’t they in essence One - in as much as we
may grasp, while we ever explore and dissect The Innateness of Life, of
Matter, of Being, and our experiences therein. Perhaps, or rather surely,
the best any of us may aspire to in conveying ‘realization’ is to speak
in metaphor, allegory - symbolically - which doesn’t make the concept any
less ‘real’ nor rich, but open to interpretation, and yet further increments
of interpretation. That could indeed take forever – but we have time. We
might well accomplish this Unfolding with passion, albeit at the very least
as well, mindfully! For if there’s one thing we often lose sight of, it
is that language and images no matter how inspiring, are subjective and
not finite in and of themselves. Who would deign to assign limits, yet
aren’t we a race that seeks the finite, by our very definitions, our respectively
contemporary understanding, and by all too often and easily being swayed
by the appearance, the illusion of ‘Beginnings’, and ‘Endings’…
So, let us perhaps speak of Forever - Something that we
are all part of without a question, whether we embrace and acknowledge
the notion or not, whether we ‘proclaim’, or ‘confess’ to believe in God,
or not. I like to think that The Universal Consciousness might appreciate
us all dipping our feet in these waters more often…
Forever is – well, what is it not? And can it paradoxically
be divided into increments – at least for the sake of The Imagination’s
delving… I think so – whether one is a poet or scientist, preacher or layperson,
and definitely not necessarily mutually exclusive from one or another.
‘Forever’ is the perpetual energy within each and every atom – whether
‘seemingly’ still, or in motion. It is said that ‘the still’ vibrates at
such a high frequency that its movement is simply indiscernible to us,
yet no less real for our lack of vision…
Forever is the unfathomable, indescribable, and utterly
all-encompassing depth of Love one feels when looking into a newborn’s
eyes, or holding the hand of a loved one who is dying. It is the immediate
sensation of an exquisitely, painfully, vast chasm of distance when they
leave us, or we them - yet bigger than anything that can begin, or end
– the Love remains, echoes on, in Soul or Memory. It is the absolute breathless
awe and wonder one feels when gazing up - and out - at a clear night sky,
forgetting the seemingly limited Self; or breathing in, verily absorbing,
the first delicious scent of Hyacinth in Springtime. It is the motion of
endless waves upon the seas, rhythmic, swelling, ebbing - constant even
as they change, through currents, storms, and calm – the partnership of
individual molecules of hydrogen and oxygen binding and rebinding. It is
the Life that these very waters sustain here, above and below, inside and
out. It is the incomprehensible, magical interaction and diversity, the
link in the chain that each entity occupies, while it ‘lives’, and as it
changes form… having once taken, and then, nourishing… No energy is wasted
within Eternity.
Forever is the place we inhabit when we are ‘transported’
by a meditative state, a prayer, or a profound revelation, or when we transcend
daily, worldly limits for a time by being absorbed in a piece of music,
lovemaking, or sleep. It is the Physics and Magic of the distance that
Sound travels, as well as Light – with Time as no deterrent, but rather
an inevitability. Forever is – what each of us is made of, are part of;
some can see, and more yearn for…if only to speak of it.
