Aspects of Being

Gabrielle Perreault

The Spirit of Christmas...what can be said? Has it been waylaid by the incessant yearly marketing ploys? Has it become an empty ritual? There are high expectations put upon us to live up to old traditions, as well as to keep up with economic demands. For Christians, this can be somewhat of a time of turmoil as we are pulled one way or the other. Undoubtedly, we are increasingly bombarded as never before. Can anyone else's cultural or faith-based activities lay claim to the seeming madness that inhabits the malls and stores at this time of year? And if it's so horrendous, why do we still participate? If it's the Season of Love, why then are we so happy and relieved when it's over? Can we not find a way to "celebrate" which gives us peace, and sends it out? What are we teaching our children?

This year, while the "dark" aspects of the World we live in have come closer to us on our own continent, I pray that we remember the silence, and the quiet noise of our hearts beating, the gentle breathing that we think nothing of, the love and understanding that we can give and receive, looking inside us with gentleness as well as out. I pray we remember the bounty that we often take for granted, and consequently abuse.

I pray we remember that not all are in such positions.

For this celebration, this season, I pray we remember that we are all children, and that what has been faithfully celebrated for 2000 years could not have come about without allowing for that "space" that joyfully proclaims and allows us to be those children. For it is the fruition of Love's Spirit! We live it not only in rememberance. It is part of us!

~ Mock none - for you are not without flaws. Embrace all - for they are your kindred.

Let my soul fall in step with the silence ~
Let my weariness mend
by this snow-covered way.
Allow my thoughts to wander free
as each gentle snow-flake
carresses my face....
Let us all find a moment
that is ours alone
to seek peace in the purpose
that our seeds have been sown;
in words and in want,
in thought and in deed ~
in giving and taking
what each of us needs.
Let us find in this season
all we may seek ~
Let the proud be calmed,
and empower the meek.
In this glistening stillness
let our hearts feel the Power.
Let these whispers of peace
grant us rest in these hours.....
