Aspects of Being

Gabrielle Perreault

What does it mean to be “Strong”?

Is it to be self-reliant and autonomous? Does it mean one is by appearance and example virtually indefatigable, always seemingly able to draw upon some constant resource? - An inner confidence that radiates outward through all given circumstances? A thoughtful gentleness in Acceptance? Or is it the ability to rely on the “Emergency Measures Act” within that tells us when to say “Yes”, and when to shout “NO!” at the top of our lungs - to let a little ‘trouble’ in, engaging the source, or to shun it with all available force when the signal flags go up…

Perhaps it lies within the apparently magical re-awakening one may experience after Crisis has left a clear-cut wasteland path of destruction in its wake, whether momentary, or seemingly all-encompassing. Is it Perception and its avenues, wishful thinking… the wisdom to submit when all other access is cut off, or the courage to stand up in a flood wash of opposition? Perhaps it is made up of the countless and ever-present lessons learned in Understanding and Compassion for ourselves, and others. We all know of some around us whom we revere and consider to be ‘strong’ - but do we ever ask what the cost is…

~ It takes a lot of courage to be all of who you are… But who would you rather be?

Sometimes,
Strong means you can bury things deeper
…till the time is right.

Sometimes,
it means not looking too closely,
in order to save your sanity…

Sometimes,
Strong is what it takes
to keep things going…
till the answer comes.

And sometimes…
Strong is what it takes
To simply let go ~
And tell the truth.
