Where does one end
on a subject that forever begs further dialogue, and constant awareness,
in order for positive and wholesome changes and growth to occur? The past
two ‘Aspects’ columns have but only touched upon how the Spirit of Truth
has often been waylaid through ‘acceptance’ and hence defeat, reflected
here in the instances of suffering at the hands of, and/or being held ‘hostage’
by another, whether it be physically, psychologically, emotionally, as
well as spiritually. All too often and for far too long, this has been
seemingly intrinsic within the male/female relationship…even as we all
possess and confer our own gifts of strength to guide us through this living.
It has caused untold, unfathomable pain, and deeply insidious
legacies to be passed on from one generation to the next. For ultimately,
it’s crippled the spirit within and discouraged one from living up to their
full individual potential and expression of their own personal and sacred
wisdom. It essentially dishonours The Self as well as those whose power
seems to dominate a given microcosm, no matter the role embraced. And while
this is not exclusive to ‘intimate’ personal relationships, nor occurring
solely between male and female, this is where it is often ‘evident’…were
it not for the secrecy afforded through the use of shaming tactics, bestowed,
threatened, implied, or seemingly inherent.
These microcosms have long manifested themselves exponentially,
touching individuals, children & families, communities, and entire
cultures. Here I have touched upon some of the existing dark dynamics between
women and men, while but a beginning, yet at the very root. While most
of us consider ourselves ‘educated’ (and this has not always been so!),
we’ve not been commonly taught to speak of Truth, that is, what lies deep
within us. In fact, few enough have been taught to even look within, and
even fewer, that their unique perceptions and observations merited any
standing. And even while this Truth is and was keenly sensed and would
not go away, we’d not been commonly taught how to express its value. Not
even within a given group. Not for women, nor for men.
More often we’ve been indoctrinated into the notion that
secrets are to be suffered, and that “Power” is something to either aspire
to, or to succumb to. We’ve in effect been taught to either follow, or
lead - in the misguided belief that a ‘given’ leader has all of the answers
and knows The Way; therefore we relinquish any say in things, our own wisdom
forfeited. And yet even when one has chosen not to ‘follow’, there was
always a heavy price to pay, retribution coming in many forms of violence
and/or being marginalized, where ‘choice’ was seemingly suspended for the
time.
Oh how we, Humanity, like to think we’ve come such a long
way! Yet one need look no further than at how Change itself is always feared,
how Control is sought and enforced; Fear always having been at the root.
Yet what is constant but Change? Look! Here I sit today, able to write
about something that has plagued Humanity for generations, because of those
that have gone before me and have paved a way so that I, and others, may
be afforded the opportunity to learn as well as rely on our own courage,
insight, voice and spirit… Make no mistake that this has ‘accidentally’
nor surreptitiously come about through the realms and endeavours of “The
Weaker Sex” - battles lost have not meant The War. And while to some it
does in fact seem like war, and Upheaval - it is only Truth that has yet
to be explored… a truth come from ever half the population of this Good
Earth. This Earth… that gives life, nurtures, and speaks in countless languages,
through evolution, through beauty, through storms, death, and new growth
- the entire ritual of the Human heart and soul while we are here… where
none are excluded.
Truth, in its essence,
does not break, but bend;
Like a willow in wind ~
Like Love understands
while it reckons with Sin ~
Like Day into Night
Like still into flight…
As knowledge grows
and bestows New Sight.
While we’re born alone,
and secrets may keep us apart ~
Yet no shame shall prevent us
from exploring the heart;
Not from seeing it, nor speaking it,
nor becoming one.
Standing together beneath one Sky,
Under one Sun…
