Aspects of Being

Gabrielle Perreault

It often seems to be an impossible notion for us to embrace that dark times are as valuable, if not more so, than when we feel embraced by the Light. In the abyss we feel very much alone and abandoned. We often inevitably seek some form of escape while trials and tribulations are indeed part of our tapestry and condition in this human form. It may well be how we've been trained to view them that has the biggest influence on how we react to them. We pick up many a signal along the way regarding what constitutes "good" and "bad", that life is unfair, that circumstances that envelope us are cruelly 'undeserved', that when things go wrong it must be a punishment, or that demons are mercilessly toying with us.

I have held the hand of someone who was in endless excruciating pain, and there was the greatest and deepest feeling of love - Soul to Soul - to know in the dark they were not alone. I have embraced someone in silence when fear was all that they thought they possessed, and they gave their fear to me, released for a sacred moment. I have experienced the unmatched comfort of an understanding voice from a friend when I myself felt lost....

I have watched someone leave this world by their own hand, full of bitter spite and vengeance at this life. And I learned, and then taught those that were left behind that their remaining journey was a gift of grace and understanding, so as not to adopt that same bitterness themselves. I have found diamonds in the dark. I have been to Golden Heights and to the depths of despair and weariness, and I surely suppose that I will come to both again - because while we are here, it is our work and responsibility to glean what we are able from each moment. What we so readily and often deem as impossible or cruel is but the forging of our soul's wisdom. There is no substitute for it - for it is the worthiest of endeavours.

When we feel we are surely trapped within a moment is the time to investigate what lies below the surface. This is but a gift, as the tribulations of the oyster inevitably produces a shimmering one-of-a-kind piece of perfection. The world does not commonly teach us this. We must come to know it within ourselves....

~ Perplexity is the beginning of knowledge - Kahlil Gibran

I think, feel, and pray every day.
I pay heed and so it is that I learn,
knowing that dark times and mistakes
are indeed the greatest teachers.
Learning each day,
therefore I shall keep peace with myself.
The past is for lessons,
the future is for hope ~
Today is mine.
I will spend it wisely,
and I am grateful.
