Aspects of Being
Do you ever think much about 'coincidence'? - Serendipity, as it was called in a posting at the Oracular Tree. I do. The fact that the article was there last week made me pause and think... For the last while, I've been trying to coin a phrase that covers the phenomenon. Yet I suppose that it can mean something different to everyone who encounters it. Cosmic Coincidence is the best I can do - and it's real enough in my own life. That is, I'm not obsessed, but I do pay attention. It's a bit of real Magic in a so-called ordinary day-to-day life. A book nearly literally falls off a shelf into your hands, and you needed to read those words. You're looking for the Perfect Gift for someone dear, and something reminds you of a wish you heard that person speak of 2 years ago when you see the item. You nab a fabulous concert ticket to see your favorite band in the Whole World, and their music comes on the radio seconds after you finish cheering! You meet someone you know at a train platform - 2000 miles away from home.... You've been thinking about someone long lost and they phone you within hours. An obscure and never-before-heard piece of music moves you so deeply, that you actually go to the record store the very next day, and it's the first thing you see as you browse the display... Is it that these things don't happen to most people, or do we get so lost in our personal Life Details that we forget to look....we do tend to get self-absorbed in many a moment. A good coinkidink can snap you right out of that. If it makes you smile, makes you think, then it worked! Then again, when are we paying attention? We folks just love a good bona fide "Miracle" - a veritable Parting of the Sea in order to qualify. But we miss so many moments in between waiting for the Jack Pot of a sign from The Universe. Some of us pray for things, worthy as they indeed are - but what of blessings in disguise? - Being able to be present at the death of a Loved One, the rainbow you find at the end of a tribulation, an unexpected sense of peace... A reassuring signpost in a very dark hour - comforting words from a friend, or hearing a song that moves you to tears, and releases what's inside you when you were certain you were going to burst or disintegrate. Seems we're often looking for revelations like it ought to be a Sweepstake - winner take all. I keep thinking, if we miss the small stuff, how would we, could we, ever believe in anything bigger? Even though most of us proclaim that we do... Where do they come
from? My dictionary defines coincidence as occurring "apparently by mere
chance". I consider that to be a veritable disclaimer. Nice that someone
decided to give The Universe the benefit of the doubt! Hey, and what about
those "Parking Angels"!
~ That which makes
for what we call "a small world" is simply God's hand touching us all....
